For beautiful sea views and long walks along the craggy Aberdeenshire coastline, then look no further than Stonehaven, located just a few miles from our Landale Court community in Chapelton.
This pretty harbour town is steeped in history and is full of character. The dramatic medieval fortress of Dunnottar Castle, with origins tracing back to the third century, can be found looming over Stonehaven from the rocky headland. It’s well-worth a trip to this iconic Scottish landmark, which is possible to reach by car. If you’re able to walk, there’s also a winding clifftop path that you can take up to the castle – all whilst taking in breathtaking views over the North Sea.
The Ship Inn, which was built on the harbour in 1771, is the perfect spot to stop off for a wee dram on your way back down to the town. As one of the oldest inns in the area, you’ll find Stonehaven’s nautical history weaved into the very fabric of the pub. And if you’ve worked up an appetite, why not take a seat at the Captain’s Table? The Ship Inn’s restaurant serves delicious locally sourced produce from midday to 8.30pm daily.
Something for everyone in Stonehaven
If that doesn’t take your fancy, there’s plenty more that you can do in this picture-postcard town. Why not take a stroll along the sandy seafront and discover some of the intricate iron sculptures that feature around the town or enjoy an ice-cream from Aunty Betty’s on the promenade?
Along the seafront, you’ll also discover Stonehaven’s open-air swimming pool where you can enjoy a dip in the fresh sea air or even go for a midnight swim beneath the stars! The choices are endless.
