YOUNGSTERS put the fun into running at the Friends of Newtonhill Primary (FON) run sponsored by Brio Retirement Living.

The Friends of Newtonhill School held their ‘FON’ run on Sunday 14 July, starting just ahead of the popular Chapelton of Elsick 10k, at 10am.

Brio Retirement Living – which is developing Brio Landale Court, a new retirement community in Chapelton - sponsored the event for the first time and provided medals for all youngsters who crossed the finish line.

The 97 children who took part gathered for a warm up before a horn signalled the start of the 1km run for children in Primary 1 up to Primary 7. The nursery and pre-school children joined for a toddler dash on last 100m on the home straight.

Every child was a winner and they collected a medal, a bottle of water and some Haribo’s for their efforts.

The popular event was organised by Newtonhill School PTA and Parent Council and all of the money raised will go directly towards the school. As sponsors Brio Retirement Living provided the medals.

Bryan Snelling, Chair of Friends of Newtonhill, said: “The Friends of Newtonhill (FON) were really pleased to welcome the support of Brio Retirement Living for the kids 1k and Toddler Dash races. Their support has helped us raise money to support Newtonhill School and the children in the future.”

Ashleigh Baldwin, Local Marketing Co-ordinator for Brio Retirement Living, said: “We were delighted to support such a fantastic community event and it was wonderful to see so many local children taking part. They all did tremendously well.”

As well as serving the coastal village of Newtonhill and Muchalls, the school serves the growing new town of Chapelton, where Brio Landale Court is located.
