We’re almost there. That time of year when ever more disparate families travel from far and wide to enjoy quality time together. While for many families it will be a time of pure celebration and festivities, for others it will be one of reflection and a stark reminder that life situations change and loved ones might not be coping with life as they once did.

This is something we’re very conscious of at Brio Retirement Living. Thinking about the future can be a daunting concept for families, but when people see that our aim is to promote community, activity and independence, conversations often take a much more positive turn.

Construction has begun now on our first retirement village in Chapelton, a vibrant new community five miles South of Aberdeen. Our new village will sit right at the heart of this new community, providing 94 one and two-bedroom apartments and cottages. Whilst we are really proud of their high-quality design and chocolate box cottage aesthetics, our village will provide so much more than just houses. It’s a celebration of a new way of retirement living for those aged 55 or over.

The village will have a range of facilities including a brasserie and outdoor space with fire pit and exercise trails, a bespoke programme of activities including photography, Tai Chi and shopping trips and flexible technology enabling residents to easily keep in touch with family and arrange care appointments as and when they need extra support.

At this time of year, we also mustn’t forget that many people will be spending the holiday period isolated and alone. New figures have been released this month by The Mental Health Foundation and Age Scotland showing the extent of loneliness in the country. According to the charities’ data there could be 120,000 older people in Scotland for whom loneliness is causing mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety and low self-esteem.

This is an issue that we are passionate about addressing at Brio, which is why community will be at the heart of our Chapelton village. We’ll have a community hub where residents can get to know each other, a village manager who will always be on hand, as well as a busy schedule of classes, events and activities to join in with.

Our aim is to ensure that everyone retains their independence in their own homes, while being able to join in with as many activities as they’d like. Sometimes all anyone needs is an invitation to join in and that’s what we will offer to every one of our residents.

As we look ahead to the New Year, we are excited to become part of a new community, providing new homes and facilities for local people and adding to the vibrancy of Chapelton as well as the future prosperity of Aberdeenshire.

The sales suite is now open at Brio Chapelton and more information about the development can be found here.
