ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS FOR THE CHEF WHO HAS HEATED UP HACKBRIDGE WITH HIS CULINARY TALENTS

“I genuinely can’t believe how fast the last year has flown by – and I can hand-on-heart say I’ve loved every minute!

“I loved working in Mayfair, and the role allowed me to refine my skills and showcase my culinary expertise to an international audience, but I was ready to take the leap and do something I could establish as my own, and here at Rishi’s I’ve now honed my leadership and management skills too.”

Harish took over the contract at Slate and Grain which is a restaurant and bar located within Brio Retirement Living’s Button House development in Hackbridge. Button House is located within the vibrant New Quarter Mill development and offers a wonderful atmosphere for residents and visitors alike. Perfect for those looking to move into a community that makes life easier, more enjoyable and ultimately a great place to live, whilst now boasting Rishi’s superb menu which visitors travel far and wide to sample.

Harish continues: “The residents at Button House have given me excellent feedback on the menus. They often mention how delightful the food is, especially appreciating that it’s freshly made, using local produce. I always take their comments on board as since joining Button House last winter, I’ve had the privilege of getting to know all the residents here and they have all become very close friends, not just to me but to my entire team as well.

“Building these relationships has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my role here and each resident brings their unique personality and charm, which makes every interaction meaningful and enjoyable. The connection we share is wonderful and there’s a very strong sense of community and trust here. It’s truly a joy to be part of such a warm and friendly environment. Everyone here is so happy and content – and they love the fine dining experience we provide, whilst also offering it at a reasonable price – it’s a win, win for everyone!”

Harish is also proud to host a wide range of clientele at Slate and Grain. He explains: “Our guests come from diverse backgrounds, bringing a variety of preferences and tastes to the table. We cater for residents, reservists, and their visitors, ensuring every meal suits their individual needs. Additionally, we welcome guests from further afield who appreciate high-quality food made with fresh, local ingredients. This diversity keeps our work exciting and allows us to constantly innovate and deliver exceptional dining experiences.”

With a year under his belt in Hackbridge, Harish reflects on why he knew from the first moment he set foot in Button House, that this was his calling.

“My very first impression was highlighted by the warm and genuine welcome I received from everyone. The way people treat each other with respect and kindness immediately stood out to me. I was also deeply impressed by the strong work ethic displayed by the entire team. The seamless teamwork and excellent management made it clear that this was a well-coordinated and professional environment. It’s inspiring to see everyone working together with such dedication and positivity. This combination of warmth and professionalism truly sets the place apart. Being here feels like being part of a big family, which is something I deeply value.”

Being located not far from Button House means that Harish also loves to explore the local surroundings, and shared: “I love to explore so you’ll often find me visiting the local historic towns, villages and parks, or travelling into London which is only 25 minutes away by train. But honestly? One of my favourite things to do in and around Hackbridge is to invite people to experience the authentic flavours we create here at Slate & Grain!

“I take pride in showcasing the meals we create, and I hope to make Slate & Grain a go-to destination for everyone in Hackbridge and beyond, where they can enjoy a unique dining experience. Sharing our passion for food with the community is truly rewarding and something I look forward to every day.”

Alongside his beloved menu, Harish is also a dab hand at hosting events and loves to be challenged with themed occasions too. He continued: “Since last winter we’ve successfully organised a variety of events at Slate and Grain, including a festive Christmas event, and a joyous New Year’s Day celebration – which we’ll be recreating this year too! We’ve also hosted many themed events including on Burns Night, Valentines, Easter and a lively summer party. We’ve also embraced diverse themes with our extremely popular Italian Night, Mexican Night, Bollywood Night, and a vibrant Caribbean Night. Our commitment to keeping things exciting continues, with a special event happening every month. These events bring the community together and offer something unique and enjoyable for everyone.”

As Harish eagerly looks forward to 2025 at Button House, as more residents move in and his delicious food is being talked about far and wide, he’s already committed to creating memorable moments for everyone who visits.

“I’m so proud of how far I’ve progressed – from the young boy who once tried to impress his family and accidently added sugar instead of salt to an array of dishes! To having my name above the door is very humbling. I’d also like to say a special thanks to all the residents here for making this journey so rewarding, as well as to my general manager, Karl, for his continuous guidance and support. I’m also deeply grateful to Trish and her Brio management team, who have always supported me and stood by me. Their encouragement has made all the difference, and I’m excited for what’s ahead in 2025. Now, let’s eat!”
