Enjoying life to the full, independent living, a central location and a strong sense of community were all top of the wish list for new retirees Howard and Pat Styles. Happily, a brand-new bungalow at Beechwood Park retirement village in picturesque Stow-on-the-Wold ticked all the right boxes.
Pat, who has a Degree in garden design and has planned the design for her new private garden, said: “I am a local girl to Stow, so we have always loved the location. When we were looking to retire it was a great opportunity to move back to the area as we still have friends and family who live locally, and our grandchildren are only a 20 minute drive away.”
The couple who downsized from their home in Waltham Abbey, were looking online for the perfect location to retire to and saw that Brio Retirement Living were holding an open day to view the new homes at Beechwood Park. Howard said: “It just all fell into place so quickly. I looked online and by the weekend we were viewing our new home! It’s more than just a home, we’re joining a thriving community - it’s somewhere we can settle and live for the rest of our lives knowing we have that peace of mind that if anything were to happen to either of us there’s the additional support and companionship from the Brio team that comes with living in a retirement community.”
Beechwood Park is perfectly placed being located only a short walk from the market town of Stow-on-the-Wold, which has everything you need on your doorstep. From your everyday essentials to galleries and museums, gourmet restaurants and pubs to some of the Cotswolds’ best bakeries and tearooms. Pat continued: “We love the location as we can literally walk into the town and everything we need is on our doorstep with great shops and cafes. If we don’t feel like venturing into town we can meet up with friends within Beechwood Park as it has its own brasserie and bar, as well as fitness suite, spa and hobby room. We really are lucky to live in a beautiful location surrounded by quaint villages and stunning scenery found across the Cotswolds AONB. We also like to travel into London to go to concerts and further afield – everything is accessible either by train or with great network links.”
Talking about their bungalow, Howard said: “We loved the fact that at Beechwood Park we have our own bungalow with private garden, but also live within a community. The bungalow gives us the space we need – don’t get me wrong it was a challenge to downsize and declutter, but having a brand-new home to move into with all the mod-cons it offers – makes it all worthwhile.
“I absolutely love technology and each property comes with a ‘Home app’ to control the heating and lighting throughout our home – direct from my mobile phone I can switch lights on and off and adjust the heating in each room as they have separate thermostats! There’s also a car charging point so I can charge my Tesla and electric bike, and also manage this from the app on my phone.
“One of our favourite rooms is the kitchen with its top notch appliances and underfloor heating which means it is really cosy and we can make the most of the space as we’re not working around radiators. All the rooms are light and airy with big windows flooding natural light into each room, and we love our bedroom with en-suite.”
Living at Brio’s age-exclusive community can also provide additional benefits, Pat told us: “Managing a home can get a bit much when you get older - but living at Beechwood Park we don’t have to worry about this as this is covered in our monthly service charge – even the window cleaning! We also have peace of mind if we want to go away for a few days as there is an option for the Brio team to care for our pet bird Georgie.
“The community feel at Beechwood Park is wonderful and we’ve already made lots of new friends - attending events and get-togethers with our new neighbours. It really is the perfect place to live as we settle into our retirement.”
